LaF Skin Volumer Cover Cushion Review

Hello! Sorry for the long hiatus on the blog!
I am usually way more active on my Instagram, but since it is my summer break I have more time to investigate and thoroughly review beauty products.
I have been really into looking at the ingredient list of make up products!
I will definitely be going into that in my blog posts and keep my #Instareviews more subjective.
0.8L were kind to send me this product for an honest review~
If you want to see what this product is all about keep reading below~

First, can we take a moment to appreciate the beautiful packaging! The metallic on the box and the baby pink color of the cushion has me totally going heart eyes!
This is my second product from the brand "Lost and Found." I had no idea that LaF stands for "Lost and Found!" I thought the name of the brand is so adorable.
They find the answers to your "lost" skin concerns.
This product specifically says:
"You may be frustrated with the way your complexion that dull, rugged and thus drooped somewhere. Could there be any foundation that makes a face silhouette beautiful and that brightens and hydrates skin as if someone airbrushed my photograph using a photo app? Why not? Here it is!"

Some awkward sentences, but you get the gist right?

And continuing straight from what it says on the box:
Lost thing & Problems:
Bumpy skin, Flush skin, Dark skin, Dry skin
Found thing & answers
Volufiline, Pink Flower Complex, Bio-Hyaluronate Solution, Chamomile Natural Fermentation Flower Water

They were kind enough to include the benefits of the aforementioned "answers":
Volufiline component fills up dull and drooped skin silhouette and pink flower complex brightens up your skin. On top of it, Hyaluronic acid and Chamomilla recutita flower water moisturizes your skin that may be dried out by makeup.

I got mine in 23 Natural Beige. It is a SPF 50+, PA+++. Although remember to wear your regular sunscreen too. And it has the expiration date, which is nice.
The cushion itself is your typical cushion. It comes with the protective layer, air puff, and a nice mirror.

In the cushion itself, the color looks like your typical 23 Natural Beige. The cushion is saturated with product so make sure you are careful to not press hard. Actually, if you're using it for the first time, try to not press it at all. When I say that this is saturated, I really mean it.
The formulation of this is quite moisturizing for it's powdery finish!

Swatch of the product on my very yellow base skin.

My immediate thoughts while I am applying the cushion is that: "Omg, I put on too much" and "OMG THIS IS SO THICK!"

Also, the color is a little bright for 23. It might have been more emphasized because I did not ration the product well and pressed down a little too hard, but the color of my neck and my face contrasted way too obviously. It looked like I had a white cast on my face.
It always creases a bit, since it is so thick and has high coverage, so you have to pat well. It doesn't seem to adhere to the skin for a natural finish.
It definitely looks like you have makeup on. A lot of it too. (-_-) Which I don't like, personally.
Other than the shade being quite bright, the finish is actually impressive.
It is moisturizing but has a nice matte, powdery finish.
I did not powder my face to see how well this actually lasts.

Since the product was layered on my face quite thick, if you touched it or scratched your face, the foundation would move and my fingerprint would show.
Also, note that this was THE hottest day ever in California! Above 100 degrees.
Considering that, after two hours, I would say this foundation held up pretty well with the sweat and sebum.
My nose usually gets the oiliest, but so far it is doing pretty well I would say!

Alas, the heat was too much. Can you see where the foundation rubbed off around my nose?
I didn't retouch or even wipe my face at all!
Yes, I was feeling quite gross...
But the other parts of my face, other than my nose, look intact and it was.
I actually had this foundation on for a bit longer and it looked pretty much like it does in the "5 hrs after" photo.
Because of its matte, powdery finish I feel like this will be good for oily skins as well.
I have dry skin, and although around my mouth, it looks a little dry, I think it is relatively moisturizing.

Now that we have seen what it looks like and how it wears throughout the day, I want to discuss the ingredients that came up as "dangerous" in this product.
I looked it up on a cosmetic analyzing app from Korea that has a lot, if not most, Korean beauty products and tells you how many ingredients are deemed unsafe.
This came up with 5:
1. Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone: "A skin/hair conditioning agent, emulsifier and delivery agent. As a silicone it provides emolliency, water binding properties, good slip and a silky touch on the skin. It keeps the water and oil parts of an emulsion from separating, and possesses great trapping capacity that enables it to prolong the release of active molecules, particularly pigmented ones. It also conditions the skin, gives it a smooth and soft look and eliminates any tackiness."
It says that it is generally considered safe, although some believe it may act as a carcinogen. (source)
Also, I took the time to read a PDF research paper on Dimethicones. For this particular Dimethicone and for the sake of research I think higher doses were given to the rats that were tested. No mortalities were reported.

2. Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone: "A silicone polymer that has multiple functions in cosmetic products, including skin/hair conditioning, emulsifier, and thickener." (source) This information is from the Paula's Choice site and she labeled it as "good".
From the PDF source, when administered it showed to irritate the rabbit's eyes, though it was resolved by 48 hours. (source)

3. Dimethicone: Recommended restriction of use in cosmetic products and classified as expected to be harmful! (source

4. Phenoxyethanol: Is said to be safer than parabens and used as a preservative. "There are several animal studies that demonstrate that it is toxic - with effects on the brain and the nervous system - at moderate concentrations. In Japan, there is a concentration limit for its use in cosmetics. In Europe, the European Union classifies it as an irritant and there are various studies (on rabbit skin, for example) that demonstrate reactions at low doses. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) data sheets show chromosomal changes and genetic mutation effects in testing as well as testicular atrophy and interference with reproductivity in mice." (source

5. Fragrance; Parfum; Aroma: Can be irritating to the skin

After doing some research, although obviously this research will be endless! I find that there are always conflicting studies and information. As you can see some label Dimethicones and its derivatives as safe and other studies show that it may be irritating. However, Phenoxyethanol, although it is towards the end of the ingredients list in the LaF Cushion, makes me rethink of using this product again. Like I said, for the sake of research, I am sure much higher doses were administered to the poor animals in testing. But I still don't want even 0.5%-1% of phenoxyethanol in my products. That ingredient has made it on my list of ingredients to watch out for when I buy products!
I hope my research and information was not in vain and that you found this information to be useful!

Overall:
Longevity: 5 out of 5 stars
Coverage: 5 out of 5 stars
Finish: 4 out of 5 stars
Ingredients: 2 out of 5 stars
Personally, would I use or repurchase?: No
